Overall Impression: A very
attractive boat with a large and inviting
lobby that makes a good first impression.
Colors are in the red and blue theme but
that is not quite as garish as it sounds.
Lots of burled wood, even the doors to the
cabins were burled wood, probably laminate
but it looked good. Chrome and glass abound
with a light airy feel. A combination of the
more traditional décor mixed with a little
glitz! Not the subdued elegance of AMA or
Scenic Cruises. However, I liked this look
and felt it was very warm. I do prefer the
elegance of AMA and Scenic Cruises but would
not be surprised at all if others preferred
this Avalon décor.
81 Cabins: 172 square feet.
Twin or queen bed configuration with
linens used to match the bed style.
Two large night stands - one with two
drawers and one with shelves. There is
one hanging closet with front to back
hanging (less convenient and harder to
find clothing) and one closet with
shelving that also has a mini
refrigerator. Desk covers entire
wall with inset for narrow table area. TV
is mounted on the wall to conserve space.
Bottom category is the same without the
French balcony and has two portholes instead
of the normal higher larger windows.
4 Junior Suites: 248 square feet
Suite is very nice with an angled bed
and lots of walk around space. There are two
desk top areas - one with the mini bar and
then a separate larger desk and two big
drawers. Love seat, chair and glass top
table in the sitting area. Two closets
feature side to side hanging (much more
convenient) and a shelf unit with safe.
Beautiful highly polished wood surfaces,
with a lot
of counter top storage. The larger marble
bathroom has a walk in shower (no bathtub)
with more storage in the bathroom.
Positives & small things I noticed
- The sun deck is
divided into sections
by low canvas petitions that creates a
feeling of more privacy. There is a
large covered area on the sun deck with
tables and chairs. Lounge chairs have a
pull over sun shade.
- Wine, beer or soft
drinks included with dinner.
- Mini refrigerator
in all cabins.
- Nice desk area
with storage in standard cabins.
Negatives
- Land and cruise
package must be purchased together.
- Offers excursions
in nearly all the ports
for city tours.
Optional excursions
are available for an extra cost. For
example, a Budapest at night
tour was offered
for a
charge of 29 Euros that lasted two
hours.
- No water included
in the cabins.
-
Tea and coffee
are
included at lunch but all soft
drinks, bottled water, wine or beer
are an additional charge.
- Paper hand towels
in the public restrooms.
- Fake green ivy on
dining room tables as centerpiece.
- Lower priced
cabins have portholes rather then the
larger high windows.
Avalon - Pricing - French Balcony Cabin
- estimate only prices vary by cruise
7 night cruise -
$3236 per person - average per day of
$462 per person
7 night cruise and 5 nights land - $4326
per person - average per day $360 per
person
